The monastery was built in the 7th century by Odilia, a daughter of the Frankish Duke Eticho, in the Hohenburg, which had been given to her by her father for this purpose. The place was used as a nunnery until the Middle Ages and later named after Saint Odilia, the founder of the monastery and patron saint of Alsace.

A decent climb, but great views over the landscape.

A great view of the Rhine valley and the Black Forest, public toilets. On the terrace there is the seemingly unique sundial, which can represent different time zones (local time, Roman, Babylonian ...). Inside the complex there is a beautiful tree-shaded courtyard, an exhibition and a kind of self-service restaurant.
