Unfortunately, not much is left of the historic city wall that surrounded the old town center of Kemnath. Many buildings were incorporated into the wall. Nevertheless, there is still this small, restored section, which gives a good insight on those times.

When a Kemnather died in the last century, the dead person was laid out on a board in the house, "so that the corpse in rigor mortis would have a stretched position". On the day of the funeral, the deceased was transferred to the coffin. The coffin joiner then treated the board on which the corpse had previously been laid out, labeled it and fastened it horizontally in a clearly visible manner. Up until the 1930s there were 50 death boards on a barn, when the custom came to an end in the 1940s. There are many barns or barns to which these death boards are still attached, the oldest board dates from 1868.
