Tips

  • Jesko von Werthern

The Limes once ran across the Taunus over 2,000 years ago. Countless watchtowers and forts still bear witness to this today. Some have been well reconstructed and preserved, others can only be seen as foundations. At least there are wall remnants at the Kleiner Feldberg fort, so that one can easily guess the extent of the area. Incidentally, this example is the highest Roman fort on the entire Limes.

Photo flight with drone over Limeskastell. Near glassworks, interesting as the Romans used to live.

The Roman fort is interesting to look at and you can imagine what it was like back then. Unfortunately, they are overgrown at the moment that you do not have a completely clear view, but it is still worth visiting.
When you step into the castle you can still see the foundation walls and the subdivision of the individual rooms.

Well, there are still a few walls to see, but as so often at the Limes one needs some imagination to imagine a fort.
