The Roannay is an Ardennes stream that rises on the Hautes-Fagnes plateau, near Francorchamps, and flows southwest towards the village of La Gleize where it flows into the Amblève. Shortly before the confluence is the national nature reserve known as "Les prairies humide du Roannay" and even further upstream, there are also beautiful wet meadows interspersed with hedged elements but not yet protected, more particularly at the Moulin du Ruy. These meadows occupy the bottom of the Roannay valley at around 250 meters above sea level and are home to interesting vegetation such as acidic low marshes, meadowsweet (Filipendula ulmaria) and bistort (Persicaria bistorta) megaphorbia groves, young riparian alder-ash groves currently being established, etc. Their flora and fauna, however, remain little known and remain to be inventoried.
