Taking its sources on the heights of Spa near the aerodrome, in the forest called Bois des vieilles fagnes 4 kilometers south of the hamlet of Wayai, it crosses the town of Spa, receives the Eau Rouge at Marteau, the Chawion stream then joins Theux where it flows into the Hoëgne. Spa having suffered in the past many catastrophic floods, the Warfaaz lake was created upstream to regulate the flow of the river.
