The Galgenberg is a nice highlight, because it is after the Schaumburg, the second most beautiful excursion train to Schalkau. It offers a fantastic view over the city, as well as the surrounding places, Katzberg, Ehnes, Almerswind to direction Franconia. It is actually called "Georgsberg", but has always been popularly called "Galgenberg". It is unclear where the name comes from, as there is evidence that no gallows stood here, and no executions were carried out. The "old hut" was built in 1933 as a refuge and is now part of the Kulturbund Schalkau e.V.
