Tungsten Pass is a smaller pass along the Uinta Highline Trail. The ascent from Yellowstone Creek is gradual, making it one of the less strenuous passes on the trail. Once up and over it, hikers descend toward Tungsten Lake, a pretty alpine lake nestled amid the rugged terrain. This lake, along with nearby North Star Lake, is known for its abundant brook trout, making for an excellent fishing opportunity for those interested in a backcountry feast! The trail segment between Tungsten Pass and Porcupine Pass only climbs a total of roughly 800 feet in elevation gain, but this section of trail crosses open landscapes with minimal tall vegetation, leaving hikers exposed to potential storms, so it is best to complete it relatively quickly.
