The ponds are renewed every 10 years if necessary, but unfortunately all the flora and fauna have to be removed. There is an artificial water-blocking layer under the gravel. This last happened in 2016/2017.
There are at least seven ponds spread over several hundred meters in the area.

Hiking

As compensation for the expansion of the BAB A4, the former military training area in the Jenaer Forst was renatured. It created several wetlands. I like this pond very well. In the crystal-clear, knee-deep water you can refresh yourself. Also newts and tadpoles can be observed here. More animals can be seen, however, in the much flatter, about 100 meters away "frog pond".
