The choir and the transept are from 1416. The central nave was built in 1525-1540 and immediately afterwards side aisles would have been built and the central nave would have been raised. In 1594 the church was destroyed by fire, only to be restored in 1613. The tower then had a twisted spire. The tower became dilapidated and was rebuilt in 1760. In 1890-1904 the church was restored and provided with a private chapel for Countess Jeanne de Merode and a funerary chapel for the de Merode family.
