St. Patroclus Cathedral, the epitome of Romanesque architecture in Westphalia, is actually a collegiate church. The canonical foundation was founded and settled in Cologne. Soest was the center of the Cologne archbishops in Westphalia. The relics of the holy martyr Patroclus came to Soest in 954. The foundation was not founded until the 11th century. The collegiate church was consecrated on June 11, 1166. It is the only one of the old churches in Soest's old town that has remained Catholic.
