There is a legend.
Prince Heinrich went hunting and saw a magnificent stag. He shot it with a bow and arrow. The stag fell to the ground and scared up a swan, which fluttered out of the bushes and called Dobber, dobber.
In the Slavic language, that means good, good. That encouraged the prince to actually build here - despite the swampy building ground. Later, the Slavic word "an" was added to the Dobber, and that is how Doberan came about.
