In 1914 the Königliche Forstdirektion Stuttgart received 5 kg of seeds of the green coastal Douglas fir, as well as a further 92 conifer seed samples from North America, Europe and Asia from the German Dendrological Society. The arboretum has been expanded over the decades and the species inventory currently consists of 105 species of conifers and 109 species of deciduous trees. It is particularly worth seeing in spring and autumn when some of the trees are in bloom or when there is Indian Summer in the Ländle.
