The owners and residents of the former farm complex Harff’sche Burg seemed to be just as disorientated as the protagonists in Heinrich Böll’s novel “House without a Keeper”. The name of the castle goes back to the owner Johann von Harff zu Geilenkirchen, who expanded the complex into a lowland castle in 1546. Since the last resident moved out in 1880, the building’s existence has been at risk and the house has fallen into disrepair. Despite its regrettable decline, the still recognizable stately furnishings captivate passers-by.
