The area has been used as a gliding area since 1973. The first hangar (old hall) was also built at this time.
In 1982, the Drachenflieger Taunus e.V. association began flight operations at the Pohlheim airfield, in addition to the site founders' association Segelfliegergruppe Steinkopf (also called SGS Pohlheim).
The construction of an additional storage facility (new hall) in 2006 was essential for the use.
