Tips

  • A visit to Schiffenberg Monastery is worth it just because of the beautiful view (provided the weather is nice 😉). The restaurant is closed on Monday. Otherwise a tel. Reservation highly recommended. Another highlight at Schiffenberg Monastery is the annual Cultural Summer Festival.

  • The Schiffenberg monastery is a former monastery complex on Gießen's local mountain (281 meters). The double-choir, originally three-aisled pillar basilica with transept and octagonal crossing tower from the 12th century has been largely preserved. Due to its age and architectural importance, it was given the rank of one in July 2012 In the summer, the basilica and the courtyard are used for cultural events such as the Gießen Summer of Culture and church services.

  • As part of the Gießen cultural summer and the musical summer, concerts take place here in a beautiful atmosphere - in the musical summer even free of charge, in the cultural summer with well-known artists, but there is an entrance fee.
