The forest around Schiffenberg Monastery surprises with its spaciousness and its wide, well-developed paths, many of which are square in the Manhattan style. Every now and then you come across basalt rock, which, as the foothills of the Vogelsberg, is a relic of the volcanic past. The forest looks good and intact, but the traffic noise from Giessen and the streets can often be heard.
