The Michaelskapelle is one of the landmarks of the town and is visible from afar on the Michaelsberg. It was first mentioned in a document on the occasion of its rededication in 969. As a castle chapel, it belonged to Burg Riegel, which was first mentioned in 1160 and destroyed in 1356. Wood from the years 1283-1293 is used in the roof truss, the chapel was renovated around 1465 and, with the late-Gothic chancel, was largely given its current appearance. The Michaelskapelle also served as a pilgrimage church.
