A symbol of the city and one of the most important civic monuments, the Trepponti is also known as Ponte Pallotta, from the name of the cardinal legate Giovan Battista Pallotta, who in the early decades of the seventeenth century ordered its construction by the architect Luca Danese from Ravenna. Located at the crossroads of the four main canals that branch off the city, it once represented the fortified gateway to the town.
