In 1924, the town of Alingsås bought a motor roller from Munktell's mechanical workshop in Eskilstuna. Powered by a two-stroke petrol engine with around twenty horsepower, the machine is not a steam roller, as one might easily believe given the chimney-like exhaust pipe. After years of faithful service to the town, it was replaced by more modern machines and ended up as an eye-catcher in front of the town's warehouse on Kungälvsvägen. The steamship company later took on the historic machine and, after a few minor repairs, managed to get it started: the roller chugged across the town down to the shipyard, where it was then expertly restored. The roller, now 101 years old, is still roadworthy and is used for a short trip at least once a year on special occasions.
