Fuggerstrasse in Augsburg is an important traffic route that connects Königsplatz with Kennedyplatz. It was named after the influential Fugger merchant family in 1878/79 and was built as part of the city's expansion after the city's fortifications were demolished. City architect Ludwig Leybold planned it as part of a ring road around the old town, but this was only partially implemented.
Today, Fuggerstrasse is an important traffic axis with shops, practices and parking facilities. It is a reminder of the economic and cultural legacy of the Fuggers, who shaped Augsburg as a trading and financial center of the Renaissance.
