Westerholt Castle is a moated castle in the Herten district of Westerholt on the edge of the Westerholter forest. The enclosed by forces plant was the headquarters of the Earl family of those of Westerholt, which was first mentioned in 1193 and later called by "Westerholt to Gysenberg". Therefore, together with Schloss Herten, it is one of the most important castles in the former Vest Recklinghausen. It now houses a hotel as well as cafe-restaurant. A large part of the former castle park is used by a golf club with 75 acres of 18-hole course, whose clubhouse can be found in the former outbuildings.

Westerholt Castle is a moated castle in the Westerholt district of Herten on the edge of the Westerholt Forest. The complex surrounded by moats is still the ancestral seat of the Counts of Westerholt, who were first mentioned here in 1193 and later called themselves "Westerholt zu Gysenberg". Westerholt Castle, along with Herten Castle, is one of the most important castle complexes in the former Vest Recklinghausen.A fortified structure was mentioned here as early as the mid-14th century, but nothing remains of this old castle, with the exception of the moat. In the course of numerous conversions and new buildings, Westerholt lost its defensiveness and today presents itself to visitors as a 19th-century castle built in the style of classicism. His mansion houses a hotel, while the outbuildings are used as a restaurant and café.
