The Richard Hartmann Machine Factory in Chemnitz was one of the most important mechanical engineering companies in Saxony from the second half of the 19th century until the end of the 1920s. The company existed from 1837 until its liquidation in 1930, with individual branches continuing to produce in other companies until 1990.

Between 1848 and 1929, 4,699 locomotives left the company's production halls.

The first factory facilities were built on Leipziger Straße and extended to what is now the Schlossteichpark. A few decades later, production buildings were constructed on Altchemnitzer Straße. At the end of the 19th century, the building known as the Hartmann Factory was built on Fabrikstraße.

It houses the information center for Chemnitz, the Capital of Culture, and is a contact point for visitors.
