The impression arises that at the end of the 19th century it was considered good form for Chemnitz city councilors to give their city a present. In 1890, City Councilor Fürchtegott Moritz Albert Voigt followed the example given by his predecessor, City Councilor Clauss, and gave the city a piece of land immediately adjacent to the Bürgergarten and, around 1897, his widow Rosa Voigt another plot of land.
