The Paço de S. Miguel has a very interesting courtyard belonging to the Eugénio de Almeida Foundation and with free access during the day. Inside, you can admire the Paço de S. The construction of Paço de São Miguel dates back to the beginning of the 16th century during King Manuel I’s reign, a period known as the Age of Discoveries. The king commissioned it for his son, Infante D. Luís (Prince Louis), who was then Archbishop of Évora.

This magnificent building reflects Manueline architecture – a style unique to Portugal during King Manuel I’s reign which blends Gothic and Moorish elements with maritime motifs reflecting Portugal’s overseas explorations at that time.
