Hiking

Manuel Velázquez Cabrera (1831-1916). Born in Tiscamanita, this lawyer was the author and promoter of the plebiscite of the small islands of Fuerteventura, Lanzarote, El Hierro and Gomera, a participatory citizens' initiative that he decisively influenced in the 1912 law that created the island councils and representation in the courts of the said islands. He is one of the fathers of the Cabildo and defender of the offshore islands of the Canary archipelago.
