In Fuerteventura there are lime kilns in practically all the bays, which provided shelter for the boats; From north to south we can see ovens in places like Ajuy, Los Estancos, Parque Holandés, La Torre, La Guirra, Puerto del Rosario, La Hondurilla, etc. There is historical news about lime production in Fuerteventura dating back to 1560, when the Cabildo of La Palma made an agreement ordering the purchase of a certain amount of limestone from Fuerteventura. The arrangements of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura also reflect the extraction of the mineral for export in 1662, which was agreed upon by the island's Cabildo:

“... Since there has been no rain, great destruction and depopulation are to be expected, since there is no wheat on the island... It is agreed that the wheat and barley harvest will be stopped again, and if a ship is to be loaded comes, this will be the case. Do this only with cattle and limestone. ....”.
