On February 20, 1924, Miguel de Unamuno lost his professorship of Greek at the University of Salamanca by decree of the Spanish dictator Primo de Rivera. This also resulted in his removal as rector of the university and his expulsion to Fuerteventura. His time on the island and his close association with the "majoreros" (local residents) shaped the cultural life of Puerto del Rosario, traces of which are still visible today. The sculpture expresses the great appreciation for the world-renowned writer, teacher, and philosopher. Centenary celebration.
