Steeple is, in effect, the rocky apex of Scoat Fell's north ridge. Its summit is an exciting platform overlooking wild Ennerdale. An ascent of the ridge via Long Crag is one of the most wonderful in the national park.

Walked from Bowness Knott car park on the shores of Ennerdale alongside the river and up to Steeple, across to Scoat Fell, then Haycock and Caw Fell before descending to return to the car.

If you include Steeple on the Mosedale Horseshoe then you'll find it comes very quickly! Not much descent and re-ascent at all from Scoat Fell. My favoured route is from Ennerdale via Long Crag. A lovely airy ridge with a beautiful view to Pillar
