Jicin experienced its greatest boom under the rule of Albrecht von Wallenstein, who wanted to make it the center of his domain. Wallenstein acquired Jičín and the associated estates in 1623 for 500,000 guilders. Albrecht generously built up Jičín and eventually minted his own coin here. The town has retained its historical character to this day.
