This monastery, whose construction began in the 12th century, is the first female Cistercian community to settle in the Iberian Peninsula. The complex was not completed until the 20th century itself, when the rooms where the nuns live today were built. Its architectural evolution gives it traces of Romanesque, Gothic and Neoclassical styles that make it a very unique complex.
It is located a short distance from San Millán de la Cogolla and framed in what is now known as the route of the monasteries in La Rioja.

Unfortunately the Abbey was closed until further notice (June 2022). No further information at the entrance.

Completely unexpected you will find a large monastery on the edge of a small village. A detour is worthwhile.
