In 1858, The Royal Dutch Factory of gold and silver works established J.M. van Kempen & sons located in Voorschoten. After many management changes, mergers and collaborations, the company in Voorschoten was called: Koninklijke Van Kempen en Begeer. The factory made luxury silverware such as crockery, cutlery and art objects. In 1985 Van Kempen and Begeer left the monumental building in Voorschoten and moved to Zoetermeer.
