Place Louis-de-Bettignies Place Louis-de-Bettignies, on your right, is worth a stroll. The Deüle canal came all the way here, this was a very busy port until the 18th century. On the site of the former port (corner with Avenue du Peuple Belge) we also notice the richly decorated houses (1636) in ochre and pink tones. This was the residence of the 'Gilles de la Boë', a wealthy merchant. This is the typical flamboyant Flemish baroque. Part of the building now houses the 'médiathèque du Vieux Lille'. The name of the square refers to Bettignies, a war heroine during the First World War.

A magnificent place where it is good to stop for a beer, some wine and enjoy a local specialty.
