In many places in the Sebalder Reichswald, water-bearing ponds have constantly formed due to the damming ground conditions. Sometimes there are also artificial ponds that were created during the military use of the area. The water it feeds is acidic, poor in nutrients and dark brown in color from humic acids.

To the south of the horse enclosure, there are always areas of alternating moisture in the forest that have moor-like structures. Shortly after the Wolfsfeldener Weg branches off into Reuthlesweg, you come across the largest moor complex in the area, the “Gründlacher Moor”. Flooding peat moss, bog eyes and black-brown water are the habitat of numerous rare animal and plant species that are threatened with extinction. Because of the lack of nutrients, carnivorous plants like the water hose (Utricularia australis) or the round-leaved sundew (Drosera rotundifolia) grow there.
