"Fiete Föhr" greets all arriving guests of the North Sea island.
The sculpture, originally carved from elm wood, was created by the Flensburg wood sculptor Heinrich Oettinger in April 1999.
Just seven years later, the weather had taken a heavy toll on the wooden figure. Water had seeped from the base deep into the trunk, significantly damaging the sculpture from the inside.
Repair would have been too costly, so Heinrich Oettinger crafted a new figure, this time from oak, which was installed in 2007.

In November 1998, the harbor committee of the town of Wyk auf Föhr decided to commission the carving of the figure of "Fiete Föhr" from the trunk of the dead elm tree in front of the harbor office.
The sculpture was created by the Flensburg wood sculptor Heinrich Oettinger in April 1999. The creator of the "Fiete Föhr" figure is Lutz Ermert from Borgsum. In the summer of 2006, it was discovered that water had seeped from the base deep into the figure, causing significant internal damage.

The local landmark of the island: Fiete Föhr welcomes all arrivals here. The "replacement monument" made of oak wood created by Heinrich Oettinger in 2007 for his own work made of elm wood, which had to be replaced after only 7 years.
