The Monumento a los Pegasos at the homonymous Pegasus Pier (Muelle de los Pegasos). These striking bronze sculptures of winged horses from Greek mythology are a landmark of the city and symbolically guard the entrance to the bay of Cartagena.
The first Pegasos sculptures were erected as early as the 1920s by the artist Miguel Caballero Leclerc to symbolize the success and expected growth of trade.
The original works disappeared under unclear circumstances. Today's monumental sculptures were created in 1992 by the Colombian sculptor Héctor Lombana.
