Built as a cemetery chapel between 1887 and 1890 by the Stuttgart architect Heinrich Dolmetsch in the Unter den Linden cemetery, it replaced the old St. Catherine's Chapel, whose existence was documented as early as 1338. Only the tombstone of Major Johannes Jakobus Dann, which dates back to 1731, was taken over into the new St. Catherine's Church.
