The Tettautalbahn (branch line of the Frankenwaldbahn) was built from May 1902 to June 1903 as a branch line from Pressig-Rothenkirchen to the "Tettauer Winkel". It ran on a 16.85 km route via Welitsch - Heinersdorf - Räppoldsburg - Schauberg - Sattelgrund - Alexanderhütte to Tettau.
As the route was partly in the Soviet zone/GDR from 1945 onwards, it was closed between Welitsch and Schauberg from May 1952.
From July 1952, the freight wagons were transported by Culemeyer truck to Alexanderhütte and from there by diesel locomotive to the various connecting tracks of the Sattelgrund - Tettau railway island operation.
The Alexanderhütte - Tettau route was closed in December 1987.
In 1992, the last small shunting locomotive was also withdrawn from Alexanderhütte. On December 31, 1993, the Pressig-Rothenkirchen - Tettau line was officially closed.
