The so-called "Görlitz Railway" (Berlin – Cottbus – Görlitz) began operations in 1867. Since the end of World War II in 1945, the Lübbenau – Cottbus section has been a single-track line. This poses a major obstacle to adapting services to the significantly increasing demand. Forecasts predict that passenger numbers on the "Görlitz Railway" will increase by 95 percent by 2030 compared to 2019.

The i2030 project (i2030.de/) is advancing the double-track expansion of the 29-kilometer line between Lübbenau and Cottbus. This will significantly increase the capacity of the currently single-track line and make operations more stable. This will enable the introduction of a continuous hourly service throughout the day between Berlin and the university town of Cottbus. The Spreewald tourist region will also benefit from the improved connections. As part of the expansion work at Raddusch station, a second track will be laid and a second platform will be built on the new track. The new platform will be barrier-free.
