Information:
The "Little Ternickel" consists of nodular slate from the Elbe Slate Mountains.
West of Burgwartsberg, the outcrop of the bedrock forms two small hillocks, one of which was used as a ski jump at times. In January 2011, the "Ternickel" natural monument was incorporated into the "Burgwartsberg" landscape conservation area.

The 215-meter-high "Großer Ternickel" (Great Ternickel) is an outcrop of the 300-million-year-old volcanic rock porphyrite from Potschappel. There was a quarry near the summit of the Großer Ternickel, although no large quantities of rock were extracted.
