At an altitude of 946 meters, the Oberpfalz tower offers an ingenious panoramic view of the region. In good weather you can see all the way to the Bavarian Forest! Ideal for taking a break and enjoying the view.
August 20, 2019
It protrudes from the treetops and can be seen even from miles away, the Oberpfalzturm. It stands at the highest elevation in the Steinwald, the plateau at 946 m - the third highest in the entire Fichtelgebirge after Schneeberg and Ochsenkopf, followed by the Kösseine. 150 steps must conquer hikers before the picturesque view into the distance is possible. From the top you have a view of the largest contiguous forest area in Central Europe, as far as the Czech Republic in the Bohemian Forest.
The 33 m high wooden tower is already the second of its kind on the slab. The first Oberpfalzturm stood from 1972 to 1998. The successor was officially inaugurated in September 2000.

The Oberpfalzturm is a wooden observation tower on the 946 m high plate, the highest mountain in the stone forest
August 25, 2020
At 946m, the Platte is the highest mountain in the Steinwald (southern Fichtelgebirge) and is a popular hiking destination, not least because of the Oberpfalzturm. The observation tower stands at the summit and offers wide views of the surrounding area. The Upper Palatinate Tower was officially inaugurated on September 10, 2000. Total height 35 meters, the viewing platform is at a height of 30m and is reached after 150 steps. Great view over the stone forest.
