The former Erin colliery was located in Castrop-Rauxel. Shafts 1 and 2 were near the town center, shaft 3 in the Schwerin district.
Next to shaft 3 of the former Erin colliery, this house for mining officials was built in 1902. At that time, the colliery belonged to the Gelsenkirchener Bergwerkverein. Due to its size and architecture, it has a very representative character and was a prime example of upscale colliery housing. Just like the later built hammerhead tower over shaft 3, the house for mining officials is well preserved and is used as a residential building today.
