Riserva Naturale Duna Feniglia, a protected area of the Maremma that separates the Orbetello lagoon from the sea, a wonderful and unmissable natural scenery.

A couple of kilometers before entering Porto Ercole, follow the signs for the Feniglia beach, leave your car in the parking lots and continue on foot or by bicycle (you can also rent them on site). Access to the Riserva Naturale Duna Feniglia is free, it is a dune 6/7 kilometers long for a surface of 474 hectares that separates the open sea from the eastern lagoon of Orbetello and connects the Argentario with Ansedonia. It is a true oasis for those who love nature, you walk immersed in silence, surrounded by the intense scents of the pine forest, an ideal environment for walking and cycling in the greenery. Even on the hottest days the shade of the pine trees gives you a pleasant coolness. At regular intervals the paths open up that lead directly to the beach. A very suitable place also for sports, completely flat and equipped with a path with wooden gym equipment.

Along the main path you will also find the stele in memory of Caravaggio, it seems in fact that in 1610 the famous painter was found dying on this beach, to then die soon after in the hospital of Porto Ercole.

In the part that overlooks the lagoon there are the huts for ornithological observation, a nature trail for the blind with handrails and olfactory and tactile stations.

The vegetation is composed of maritime pines, domestic pines, cork oaks, holm oaks, sea lilies, junipers and shrubs of the Mediterranean scrub. As for the flora, the absolute protagonists are the numerous deer that live in total freedom, we also find some wild boars, foxes, badgers, weasels and skunks; finally, the avifauna includes numerous species.
