The Hespertalbahn is a historic standard-gauge railway with steam locomotive operation between the old station Kupferdreh and Haus Scheppen on Lake Baldeney in Essen.
The lower Hesper Valley Railway remained in operation because of the coal mine. Rail traffic was discontinued in 1973. Since June 1975 the Association for the Preservation of the Hesper Valley Railway has been operating the line as a museum railway.

The old Kupferdreher train station was built in 1898 for the "Prinz Wilhelm Railway" from Wuppertal-Vohwinkel via Velbert and through the Deilbach valley to Essen-Überruhr. This is the oldest railway line in Germany still in operation today. The station is located at the junction of the former Ruhr Valley Railway, which ran over the bridge and then along the northern shore of the Baldeneysee, and the Hesper Valley Railway, which runs along the southern shore of the Baldeneysee.

Since the 1970s, regular trains have stopped at the new Essen-Kupferdreh stop a little further south. The Hesper Valley Railway uses separate platforms.
