The viewing platform on the Wachhügel was opened in 2011. Even if you think that the name Wachhügel comes from the time of border security, it is much older. It dates back to the Middle Ages. Since it was slightly elevated, it was possible to spot any bands of robbers from neighboring Franconia in good time. Later, the hill became a popular meeting place and it is again today.
One of the most beautiful viewing points in the Thuringian Vogtland is on the Wachhügel in Pottiga. From the viewing point you can look far across the valley of the Saale, which meanders through the valley here.
