One of the last battles against the Spanish city took place here.
Almost endless steps lead from the town up to the temple, which was never fully completed. The wall of the six monoliths (estimated to be 50 tons per monolith!) in the Sun Temple is very impressive and is the first to be illuminated on the day of the winter solstice on June 21st.
