Philosopher, theorist of non-violent resistance, anti-fascist (1899-1968)

In the 1930s he made numerous contacts with anti-fascist intellectuals across the country. In 1937 he co-founded the Liberal Socialist Movement. In 1942 he was arrested at a meeting of a group of the above-mentioned movement in Florence, released after four months. In May 1943 he was arrested again in Perugia, released again after the fall of Mussolini. The following year he founded a "Center for Social Orientation" in which he tried out direct democratic participation structures. Offshoots were formed in numerous other cities, but they had no long chance of survival outside of the CLN parties. In the post-war period he established a religious movement that, among other things, advocated the possibility of conscientious objection to military service for reasons of consciousness.
