Usually, foresters keep and nurture their trees. In the Schonwaldgebiet Sandbruch it is exactly the opposite. Trees are undesirable here, the open space would otherwise grow very fast.

In the seven-hectare area next to the elevated road between Kanapeebuche and beech pond, after the decommissioning of the former sandstone quarry, a unique habitat was created in the area of the Swabian Forest. In the area where bricklaying and gypsum sand was mined from 1965 to 1978, all those plant forms that love sandy soils thrive: round-leaved sundew, clubblood lob, silver cinerea, eyebright, broom. Appraisers found in 1995 more than 250 sometimes very rare plant species. Forestry chief Martin Röhrs enthuses: "100,000 plants on one hectare. That's crazy. "

It's a good thing that only very few possibilities are allowed here in the beautiful heather-like area! 👍🏼
