Hiking

The Maitremse fountain, which has received little attention in recent years in the shadow of the old Volksbank and the construction activity around it, is getting a new location in the Mühlenareal. This is being done in coordination with the now 93-year-old Raesfeld artist Hermann Kunkler, who created the fountain in 1978. With its two originally rotating upright mill wheels, the fountain establishes a connection to the old town mill. In the upper part of the fountain, a Maitremse crowns it as another symbol of the town of Borken.

When you come from the Kuhmturm, you immediately notice a brightly paved area on the left. The Borkener Mühle used to stand here, which is remembered by an old millstone as well as the Maitremsenbrunnen by the artist Hermann Kunkler. A bronze plaque, documenting the development of this area, will be embedded in the sandstone wall on the side in time for the opening. The historic clinker brick that surrounds the plaque comes from the former mill.
