Hiking

The iconic round aircraft hangars at Grimbergen airport are architectural gems. They are actually 2 gigantic concrete mushrooms. They were built in the 1940s to a design by entrepreneur Alfred Hardy from Dworp. That is why they are sometimes called the 'Hardy hangars'. He patented the design. They are two identical round hangars, 7 metres high and with a diameter of 50 metres, in which approximately 35 aircraft can be parked. The hangars are considered a beautiful example of top architecture. In 2007, they were protected as a monument.
Both hangars will have been restored by September 2025.
