These pleasant gardens, located on the right side of the foothills of the Gibralfaro (like the Alcazaba), were designed with undoubted skill by Guerrero Strachan. Strachan manages to transform a barren slope into numerous terrace-like areas, as well as walkways and small rondelles, so that visitors to the city cannot stop marveling.

The Puerta Oscura gardens are located on the southern slope of the 130-meter-high Gibralfaro and owe their name to a gate from the Arab period that once stood here. They were laid out in a stepped form on the slope of the Alcazaba hill. They are particularly notable for the variety of old trees and plants that have been skilfully combined with each other and with paths, small walls, paving, fountains and stairs.
